The Board of Trustees of the Wood Dale Public Library District located in Wood Dale, Illinois seeks a dynamic, community-minded leader to serve as Executive Director. This opportunity is open due to the retirement of the previous Director.

The City of Wood Dale is a western suburb of Chicago. Residents enjoy a high quality of life that includes the amenities of Chicago and the dining options, cultural attractions, and outdoor recreational opportunities of suburban DuPage and Cook counties.

The library serves a diverse and growing population of nearly 13,000 residents with an operating budget of approximately $3 million. District boundaries include most of the City of Wood Dale and a small portion of the Village of Bensenville.

About the Opportunity

The successful candidate will be someone who excels in seeing the big picture with a focus on the details — an individual who understands the needs of the Wood Dale community while also possessing the ability to adapt to change, be responsive to needs, and confident enough to guide the library as it continues to move forward with the latest in services and resources.

The Executive Director should be an individual who embraces their role as an advocate for the library, whether participating in community events, working with other community leaders, or conversing with people one-on-one.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Strong leadership qualities with the ability to guide the library and staff in a professional manner that fosters teamwork and trust
  • The passion and enthusiasm to cultivate community partnerships and act as an ambassador for the library at community events
  • An understanding of current and emerging trends in library operations, including customer service, technology, marketing, and programming
  • Willingness to nurture an inclusive culture that celebrates the voices and viewpoints of all community members
Additional Qualifications and Requirements
  • High-level public library managerial and leadership experience including demonstrated financial and planning expertise
  • Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited institution
Salary $95,000 to $120,000/year, negotiable based on experience and qualifications. The library participates in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
